A true North Queenslander, born and bred in the North, I have been a resident for some 43 years, raising and educating my family in the Townsville region. As a local Businessman, family man, past student and teacher of the North Queensland region, I understand the economic, social, environmental and political pressures faced by us all in everyday life. As a youth, I started my career as a national serviceman, proudly serving for two years in the Australian Army, attaining the rank of Sergeant. After leaving the Army I joined the Commonwealth Bank and undertook studies in Commerce at James Cook University. These studies, upon graduation, led to a term of employment as both a lecturer and tutor by the Commerce department at JCU. This gave me the opportunity to work amongst, and teach, some of the regions greatest business people. Upon resuming with the Commonwealth Bank, I continued to advance my career and was appointed as the Senior Relationship Executive and Regional Manager of Corporate and Business Lending. My role in these positions allowed me to actively participate in the business growth of regional Queensland, and I assisted many families and companies in achieving their financial and business goals. Having worked closely with my business partner Steve James for 8 years, and witnessing the lack of personal commitment offered by the banks to clients, we came to the decision in 2006 to form Landy:James Commercial Finance to take borrowing money back to what was the traditional model with more personalised service. Our goal at Landy:James is to deliver our leading expertise in Business and Finance through personalised service to our clientele. We believe in a long-term relationship with our clients and seek to provide a high quality of service and support. Both Steve and I are always on-call for our customers, a guarantee that their financial needs are always well attended to. |
Originally from Brisbane, my family moved to the Sunshine Coast in 1988. It was here that I finished my schooling and began work as a Bank Teller with the Commonwealth Bank. I then progressed through the Bank and worked in branches at Noosa, Tewantin, Babinda and Innisfail before starting work in the Business Banking Centre in Townsville in 1998. Moving here from Innisfail, I was looking forward to some drier weather, however it didn’t turn out that way as I arrived in Townsville 2 days before the 1998 floods. Working in the Townsville Business Banking Centre for 8 years provided me with a wealth of experience in lending and an opportunity to look at a wide range of businesses from mining to agriculture, retail to manufacturing. Over the 8 years I was able to progress through to the role of Executive Manager - Small Business and also worked closely with my now Business Partner, Ernie Landy. In 2006, I had become a little disillusioned at how customers were being treated by the Banks, and thought, there has to be a better way. It was at this time we created the company, Landy:James Commercial Finance, specialising in Business, Commercial, Rural and Equipment Finance, to provide a quality ongoing service to our clients and to build better relationships with them also. I believe the benefits of dealing with us is that we are here for the long term, we have a personal interest in all of our customers and we want to assist them in achieving their business and personal financial goals. |
I am a North Queenslander born in Mackay. Upon completion of my studies at Mackay North State High School, I had a brief working experience in the retail sector in Mackay. In 2003 I took up a Commercial Lending administration position with Mackay Permanent Building Society where I acquired my commercial experience in processing and settlements. I was subsequently accepted a transfer to a larger role in Townsville which was comprised of Personal and Commercial lending and everyday banking. In 2005, Westpac offered me a role in Customer Service which I accepted. I eventually moved internally to an Administration / Customer service role in Westpac Private Bank Financial Planning. When the Financial Planning arm (now called Magnitude) was split from Westpac I chose to move out and took a role as the Accounts Clerk for the company. January 2008 saw me move to Landy James where my role as Administration / Office Manager is to assist the Principals in providing ongoing superior service to our clients.
